THE BACKWOODS TAKE Buying a youth ATV should not begin with asking which machine is the fastest. It should begin with the rider’s age, physical size, experience and ability to operate the controls safely. The Polaris Outlaw 110 EFI is designed for riders ages 10 and older with adult supervision. Its 112cc four-stroke engine provides enough capability for a young rider to continue developing without immediately outgrowing the machine, while electronic fuel injection helps provide reliable starting and consistent operation. An adjustable speed limiter allows a parent to control the machine’s available speed as the rider learns. That gives families the ability to begin more conservatively and make gradual adjustments as skill, judgment and confidence improve. The automatic transmission eliminates manual shifting, while forward, neutral and reverse make the machine easier to operate around a designated riding area. Drum brakes, LED lighting and a handlebar-mounted parking brake provide familiar controls for a developing rider. The Outlaw 110 also comes with a safety flag, online training and a tool kit. It rides on 19-inch front and 18-inch rear tires, with five inches of front suspension travel and six inches in the rear. BEST FOR Riders ages 10 and older Families introducing a child to ATV riding Adult-supervised recreational use Developing throttle and braking control Building confidence before moving to a larger ATV Families who want adjustable speed control WHY THE OUTLAW 110 MAKES SENSE The 110 provides room for a young rider to grow while keeping control in the hands of the supervising adult. The adjustable limiter is especially important because children do not all develop at the same pace. Physical size, coordination, maturity and experience matter just as much as age. The sport-style Outlaw layout also gives younger riders a machine that looks and feels like their own ATV rather than a scaled-down utility machine. THE BACKWOODS VERDICT The Outlaw 110 can be an excellent next step for the correct rider, but proper sizing and supervision matter more than simply meeting the minimum age requirement. We recommend having the rider sit on the machine, reach every control comfortably and demonstrate that they understand braking, throttle control and safe riding instructions before purchase. A helmet, eye protection, proper footwear, protective clothing and active adult supervision should always be part of the plan. ALSO CONSIDERING? Compare the Outlaw 110 with the smaller Outlaw 70 for a newer or smaller rider. The Sportsman 110 is worth considering for families who prefer a more utility-inspired appearance and riding position.
